I won!
posted by jack on Monday April 07, @09:14AM
from the contest-one-down dept.
News An email I got today:

Subject: Winners

1st Place Jack down to 70% of his original fat percent. The man also lost over 50 lbs. This is like a whole child worth of fat has just fallen off the man. Be sure to congratulate him as he begins his lifestyle of the rich and famous.
2nd Place Sheridan down to 84% of her original! She was winning at the mid-point check-in, but Jack pulled out all the stops and started slipped steaks into her fruit and vegetables hoping she would not notice!
3rd Place Jiunwei down to 86% of the original! Sadly, he wins nothing except knowing he was close

Congratulations to everyone! We had tremendous contention for 2nd and 3rd place, so good job to all on losing a bit of weight and getting healthier.

For tips and tricks to the Jack Bridges: Big Man, Small Eats™ autobiography and diet guide, contact him and prepare to never eat sugar again!

Come to Vlad/My office to collect your winnings. Or contact Vlad/me and see if we can drop them off when we are next there.

Again, congratulations to everyone involved. Stellar showing by a group of us trapped in sedentary lifestyles.
Woot. I'm thinner and I won. Woot.

My health...
posted by jack on Tuesday May 01, @03:20AM
from the cut-it-out-already dept.
News For those that don't know:
A couple weeks ago last Wednesday I went to volleyball, as I normally do, and when I was pulling into the parking lot I had some stomach pains. Not unheard of, but bad, to say the least. In between games I had another pain. This pain was big enough to cause me to be unable to move momentarily. Now, I've had kidney stones a few times before, so I know pain and this was really painful.

So, after ball I went to the car. I had to pull over twice on the way home because of pain. I stopped by Safeway and bought some milk, thinking, if it's just acid in my stomach I might be able to buffer it with that.

After getting home I drank the milk. Sometime after 11p the pain was coming more and more frequently. It would come about every 10 minutes and last for two minutes or so. The clock radio next to my bed told me that. The pain was intense. When my body has more pain than I can deal with it responds by causing me to expunge my stomach contents. I lost all of the milk. Details withheld on that part. It was instant.

Around 2a I decided that I needed to go to the hospital. I was in enough pain that getting dressed and putting on clothes actually took me 'til 3a. So, I drove myself to the hospital. They took me right in, got me hooked up and took some blood and an IV. They quickly got me on to some pain killers and some anti-nausia medication. They then proceeded to give me a bunch of tests. I was having tests until 9am. I couldn't hold down the baryum solution and they did things that weren't pleasant, but I'll save you from the details.

They told me that they couldn't find the cause of my pain, but that they did find a mass on either my adrenal glad or my kidney.
At 9:30a they were ready to discharge me, so I had my friend's carpool that was on it's way to work take me home. Lots of drugs in my system. Couldn't drive. I went home and slept from 10a until 4a. I needed sleep.

I made an appointment to see my doctor. My primary care provider. He told me there was nothing to worry about. No big rush. He had me have Evergreen send over the results, and told me he'd be going on vacation for a week, but that he'd send me an email. After a week went by, I got impatient and made another appointment.

To Be Continued...
